Week 2 of Our Humility Leadership Series at AKF Martial Arts
At AKF Martial Arts of Eau Claire, we believe leadership begins with the right mindset.
Not just confidence.
But coachability.
This week in our 8-Week Humility Leadership Series, our students are focusing on a powerful leadership trait:
Teachability.
Because the students who grow the fastest are not always the most talented.
They are the most willing to learn.
What It Means to Be Teachable
A teachable student understands something many people struggle with:
Correction is not criticism.
Correction is coaching.
When an instructor, teacher, or parent takes the time to correct a student, they are sending an important message:
“You are capable of more.”
Great leaders understand that improvement requires feedback.
Instead of resisting correction, they welcome it.
Instead of getting frustrated, they stay curious.
Instead of shutting down, they ask questions.
That mindset is what allows students to grow stronger — not just in martial arts, but in life.
What Our Students Are Practicing This Week
During Week 2, students are focusing on building habits that develop teachability.
This includes:
Accepting correction with a positive attitude
Saying “Thank you” when someone helps them improve
Asking questions when they don’t understand something
Recognizing at least one person each day they learned something from
These small habits build a powerful skill: coachability.
And coachable students improve faster in everything they do.
Why Teachability Matters for Kids
Many children struggle with correction because they believe mistakes mean failure.
At AKF, we teach the opposite.
Mistakes mean learning.
When students understand that feedback helps them grow, something incredible happens.
They stop fearing mistakes.
They start embracing challenges.
They begin to see improvement as an exciting process instead of something to avoid.
That shift in mindset builds resilience, confidence, and long-term success.
For Current AKF Families
Parents play an important role in reinforcing teachability.
When your child receives feedback this week, encourage them to respond with curiosity instead of frustration.
Try asking questions like:
“What did you learn from that correction?”
“What can you do differently next time?”
“Who helped you improve today?”
These conversations help students see correction as an opportunity instead of a setback.
And that mindset will serve them for the rest of their lives.
For Families Exploring Martial Arts in Eau Claire
Many parents search for activities that help their children build confidence.
Confidence is important.
But true confidence comes from something deeper:
The ability to learn, improve, and grow.
At AKF Martial Arts Academy, our programs intentionally teach life skills like humility, perseverance, integrity, and leadership alongside martial arts training.
Students don’t just learn techniques.
They learn how to respond to challenges, accept coaching, and continue improving.
Those skills follow them far beyond the mat.
At AKF Martial Arts of Eau Claire, we are proud to develop leaders through martial arts.
This week’s focus reminds our students of an important truth:
Correction is Connection.
