At AKF Martial Arts Academy in Eau Claire, we train more than martial arts students. We develop leaders — the kind of young people who others trust, respect, and look up to. And this month, we’re focusing on the first and most important leadership pillar: Honesty.
Why honesty?
Because no belt, no technique, and no title means anything without it.
Pillar #1: Honesty — Truth in Action
Leaders are truthful with their words and actions, no matter how hard it is.
That’s what we teach — and more importantly, that’s what we expect our students to live by.
Here are the 6 Leadership Habits of Honesty that we focus on this month:
- Admit Mistakes – Take responsibility without blaming others.
- Tell the Truth – Speak honestly in all situations.
- Keep Promises – Follow through on your word.
- Do the Right Thing – Especially when no one is watching.
- Own Your Actions – Accept outcomes and learn from them.
- Be Kind and Honest – Share truth in a respectful way.
We don’t just say these things. We put them into action with our Weekly Mission.
Weekly Mission: Leadership in Practice
Each AKF student is challenged to:
- Demonstrate honesty in real life — with family, teachers, or classmates
- Complete a martial arts workout outside of class — because consistency builds integrity
- Submit a photo or video with a caption explaining what they did
- Post it in the AKF EC Community Group and tag AKF Eau Claire or Master Gustavson
Because leadership is more than knowledge — it’s behavior repeated until it becomes who you are.
For Parents: Why This Matters
If you’re already part of our AKF family, you’ve probably seen your child grow in confidence, discipline, and focus. This leadership pillar is your chance to deepen that growth — to reinforce values at home that mirror what they’re learning on the mat.
And if you’re a prospective parent or student reading this…
Know this: at AKF, we don’t just train martial artists. We develop character. We partner with families to raise kind, confident, and honest leaders — through real training, real expectations, and real-world missions like this.
Journaling for Growth
Each student will reflect on this week’s mission with a simple journaling prompt:
How can I be honest…
At Home: ___________________________
At School: __________________________
At the Academy: ______________________
This reflection isn’t just for the week. It’s for life.
